The partnership will create a unique platform for managing the IoT solutions of smart buildings
(Sustainabilityenvironment.com) – Smart Internet of Things (IoT) connection, energy-saving and energy management in one holistic solution for smart buildings.
The goal of the partnership just signed between ABB and Samsung Electronics will see the creation of a single point of reference for citizens, businesses and promoters.
Buildings alone account for almost 40% of annual CO2 emissions globally. To help reduce the impact of climate change, it is essential to develop buildings with improved performance and reduced consumption.
Simplest technology for everyone
The collaboration between ABB and Samsung Electronics will act on the technologies of home automation, allowing customers better management of the devices, facilitating at the same time, the displacement of the electric load.

In practical terms, smarter buildings can save money and energy thanks to a single access platform. The Samsung smart things app will be connected with ABB’s automation solutions. This allows residents to use their personal devices to monitor and manage a full spectrum of appliances. And simultaneously manage elements such as smoke or gas detectors, energy levels, safety, or comfort. All through a single application.
“We imagine a future where our customers can benefit from significant carbon and energy savings by further improving access to fully integrated and holistic, smart building technology”. Mike Mustapha, President at ABB Smart Buildings, said. “Partnering with a major technology innovation leader like Samsung Electronics further supports ABB’s vision and offering to connect whole buildings with open and agnostic solutions, and to deliver insights on total energy consumption, including elements such as electric vehicle (EV) charging. This not only minimizes the carbon footprint from the built environment but delivers a seamless and engaging user experience”.
Home automation and much more
But it’s not just about smart building technology automation. The partnership also intends to expand the collaboration between Samsung Electronics products for energy management and ABB control systems for residential and commercial buildings.
Energy and power meters provide users with up-to-date data on energy costs, allowing users to define appliance usage strategies to reduce overall costs.
“With SmartThings, Samsung has been able to create an eco-system of smart appliances making homes smarter and more efficient,” said Chanwoo Park, Head of IoT Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are excited to build on that by partnering with ABB to expand the SmartThings experience to new customers making it easier for consumers to reduce costs and create positive environmental impact“.
“The simplicity of only two suppliers joining in this way adds ease to smart building projects even for construction companies and property developers. For retrofitting existing buildings, or new sites, with a single source for solutions, they can be sure that products will integrate and work together seamlessly. It also improves the after-sales experience because there is only one platform for the entire system“.
